Director of College Counseling

Dee-Dee Sanders

Years at Gems

Dee-Dee Sanders is a native Chicagoan, but she has spent the last 15 years in the southwestern United States. Before joining GEMS, Dee-Dee spent six years as the network director of college counseling for Great Hearts America, where she was responsible for implementing, supporting and overseeing the college-counseling programs in 13 prep school academies in both Arizona and Texas.

Considered by ABC News in Phoenix as the most successful college counselor in Arizona, she has worked with students who have been admitted to the most selective and highly ranked colleges and universities in the nation. Committed to seeing all students have college access, Dee-Dee worked with students from the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth, was a member of the University of Arizona Honors College Advisory Board, created and implemented the educational program for the Bo Jackson Foundation, recruited to read and interview candidates for the Gates Millennium Scholarship program and partnered with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund.
Prior to working with Great Hearts, she worked in private practice as an educational college consultant. Dee-Dee also worked for more than a decade as a high school English teacher.  She has a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in education & curriculum.
She is thrilled to be back home in the city she loves with her husband and 10-year-old son.
